The Constellation is an ever-expanding painting of deep space. A single painting made from a multitude of parts, each part contains an image of a star forming. Parts are distributed widely through shared ownership – the painting existing in many places, scattered and interrelated. The painting aspires to span public and private settings, domestic and institutional frameworks. Over the coming days, months and years, more parts are made and the painting grows.
NOTES:
THE CONSTELLATION – images of the intangible
Star formation happens in dark areas of the night sky – the internal space of a molecular cloud, where stars are forming, is invisible to the human eye. The formation process involves gas, dust, gravity, turbulence, energy, pressure, accretion, collapse and a million years. In these long-duration dynamic processes the energy of becoming remains in a constant state of flux – here, the celestial imaginary is made of unformed matter, the not yet, indeterminate, uncertain.
